Koster Islands
A Unique Island Challenge
Koster Islands, located just west of Strömstad, are renowned for their scenic landscapes and are among Sweden’s westernmost inhabited islands. Comprising North Koster and South Koster, the islands attract a large number of tourists in summer, which dramatically increases water demand. During peak season, daily consumption rises to over 150 m³, while in winter it drops below 20 m³.
Our Delivery
Enwa’s Innovative Solution
To meet the island’s fluctuating water needs, Enwa delivered a container-based desalination solution capable of producing 100 m³ of drinking water per day. The system is equipped with energy-efficient membranes, consuming only 3.2 kWh per cubic meter, and operates at pressures below 50 bar.
Reliable Water Supply Year-Round
This compact and fully automated solution ensures a reliable supply of high-quality drinking water throughout the year, even in remote locations with limited infrastructure. By combining a robust technical design with energy efficiency, Enwa has enabled Koster Islands to maintain water security for both residents and seasonal visitors, providing a sustainable solution that adapts to seasonal demand and supports the island’s tourism and community needs.
