About Larvik Municipality
Larvik Municipality in southern Norway, with more than 47,000 residents, owns and operates eleven nursing homes. In 2016, the municipality set out to improve Legionella prevention. Existing routines with thermal treatment and manual chlorination were ineffective, resource-intensive, and not supported by systematic risk assessments or sampling.
Our Delivery
Choosing Enwa as partner
To meet regulatory requirements and protect residents, Larvik Municipality launched a tender for automated Legionella control. Key criteria were cost efficiency, proven technology, chemical-free disinfection, and strong service support. Enwa Norway was chosen as the supplier.
Immediate measures where needed
Enwa quickly carried out risk assessments and sampling in all 11 facilities. In two homes with high Legionella concentrations, Enwa Apurgo silver- and copper-ionization systems were installed, providing rapid results without the need for shutdowns or high-dose chemicals.
A sustainable long-term solution
In the remaining nine facilities, Enwa h2oTitanium AOP systems were installed at the water inlets. Using hydroxyl radicals and UV treatment, these units disinfect all incoming water without chemicals, while also preventing biofilm and other pathogens.
Safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly
“By developing risk assessments for all our nursing homes and installing automated Legionella control systems, we now have this issue under control. We have reduced costs in time and energy, and we follow up every building with regular water sampling. This ensures our elderly residents are protected in an environmentally friendly way, in line with public requirements” says Svein Morten Sørensen, Building Coordinator.
