An Architectural Landmark
It took Norway 100 years to realize its dream of building an opera house. After an international architecture competition, the Norwegian firm Snøhetta was awarded the project — resulting in one of the country’s most iconic landmarks.
Opened in 2008, the Oslo Opera House rises from the waters of the Oslo Fjord like a glacier of white marble. Its striking roof is open to visitors, inviting everyone to walk on top and enjoy panoramic views of the city and harbor. With its unique combination of marble, oak, and aluminum, the building has become both an architectural and cultural symbol of modern Norway.
